Evidence-Based Help for Tantrums, Defiance, and Big Emotions

A Short-Term, High-Impact Therapy for Young Children and Their Parents

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is a highly structured, evidence-based treatment designed to help children with:

What Is PCIT?

PCIT isn’t just about managing behavior — it’s about building a stronger, healthier relationship between you and your child using real-time coaching and support.

Live Coaching + Play-Based Learning = Lasting Change

PCIT is typically completed over 12–20 weekly sessions and is broken into two phases:

How Does PCIT Work?

1. Child-Directed Interaction (CDI)
You’ll learn specific strategies to strengthen your bond with your child, reduce negative attention-seeking behaviors, and increase positive communication — all through play.
2. Parent-Directed Interaction (PDI)

You’ll be coached on how to give clear, gentle commands, apply consistent boundaries and limits, and navigate defiant behavior without yelling or power struggles.

Throughout the process, Dr. Palmwood coaches you in real-time (via a secure telehealth platform) as you interact with your child, helping you implement techniques that work in the moment — and continue to work long after therapy ends.
